Interpretation is a way to facilitate oral communication between or among parties who converse in different languages. This task requires an accurate and complete rendition of speech in a foreign language. Sometimes, clarifications and elaborations may be needed to explain concepts that do not have an equivalent in other languages or cultures.

 

An Over-the-Telephone or Over-the-Internet interpreter listens while your patient speaks in another language, and then conveys the meaning to you in English. The conversation proceeds with the interpreter as an intermediary between or among the parties involved.

Telephone connection

 

From the telecommunications point of view, the setup may vary. Most businesses have the conference call feature activated, so their staff can add the interpreter as a member of the conference call. Individuals usually can activate the conference call feature from their phone through an option provided by their telephone company. Some other businesses prefer video calls, and set up on-line meeting with multiple participants.

 

 

Patients on your premises

 

If there is a telephone connection between you and the interpreter and your patients are in the same location as you, you can pass the telephone back and forth. Alternatively, you can use a loudspeaker or multiple headsets for the telephone or for the computer.

 

In general, you can call or connect to the interpreter before calling or connecting additional parties. This way you have a chance to brief the interpreter. If you are receiving an unexpected request from  a patient, you can add the interpreter to the conference at that time.

 

Patients in another location

 

It is necessary to set up a three-way telephone connection (conference call) that involves you, your patients and the interpreter.

 

In general, if you are dialing to reach patients or your medical staff, you can call the interpreter before calling them. This way you have a chance to brief the interpreter. If you are receiving an unexpected request from  a patient, you can add the interpreter to the conference call at that time.

 

Internet connection

 

From the telecommunications point of view, the setup may vary. Most businesses have on-line meeting applications, so their staff can add the interpreter as a participant to the conference. If a web cam is available, the interpreter can detect the patient’s body language and nonverbal cues.

 

Patients on your premises

 

You can share the computer video and audio with patients who are on your premises, and communicate with the interpreter through an on-line meeting.

 

Patients in another location

 

If you and your patients are in a different location, you will both have to use separate computer video and audio equipment to communicate with the interpreter through an on-line meeting.

If you need at least 30 minutes of interpretation a month, you can select an Over-the-Telephone Interpretation plan. When you open an account, you receive a Client Identification Number.

 

Usage-based fees - You do not have to pay a monthly fee. A minimum 15 minutes fee applies; if the call exceed 15 minutes, you pay a flat rate per minute for phone interpretation. Usage is billed in one-minute increments, and rounded up to the next highest whole minute. We start charging when the interpreter comes on the line, and stop charging when you hang up. The same rate applies regardless of the time of day, or the day of the week. 

 

Billing statements - Detailed electronic billing statements are tailored to your company. You will receive your invoice via email every month. You can track calls by user, department, claim number, office location, cost center, language, or call time, depending on how you choose to set up your account.

Answer:
The two major options are to get an interpreter in person, or to connect to an interpretation 
solution offered online (Over-the-Internet) or Over-the-Telephone. We provide the last two.

How can I get help from an interpreter in person?

Answer:
You can call an interpreter on the phone, or send and email message; you will have to make arrangements directly or through an agency. Location, hours and payment details will be discussed. It might be necessary to request the service in advance, and it might unavailable at certain hours, especially after the end of regular business activities. 
Typically, if you want an interpreter in person, you will have to specify a minimum number of hours of service. At this time, we only provide Over-the-Internet and Over-the-Telephone Interpretation Solutions.

Over-the-Telephone interpretation is also 
designated with terms such as Tele-interpretation, tele-interpreter service, or remote interpretation service; the interpreter joins your telephone conversation with a person who is not proficient in English, and orally translates what is being said. In general, you can access an Over-the-Telephone service with a landline or a cellular phone. In Over-the-Internet service the interpreter joins your conversation with a person who is not proficient in English as an invited guest to an on-line meeting, and orally translates what is being said. Your host an online meeting with a wireless device, a laptop or a PC or Mac desktop connected to the Internet.

You can find the service description of Over-the-Telephone interpretation services or Over-the-Internet interpretation services in advance. When you need the service, you can call or register on a site to initiate the process.

Over-the-Telephone and Over-the-Internet-interpretation are charged by the minute. You should check if you will be required to pay for a minimum number of minutes. You do not need to plan in advance for this service, even though it is recommended to do so.

If you need help after business hours, and you could not plan for the service in advance, Over-the-Telephone or Over-the-Internet interpretation services might be the best option.
